Dear Parent/Guardian:

This month, York Township Elementary will be embarking on a reading adventure as we begin reading the book, A Boy Called Bat. Every family will receive a copy of the book and will be asked to read it at home over the next six weeks.

Reading aloud to your child is valuable because it allows him/her to develop a love of reading, while also building vocabulary and comprehension. We are excited to build a community of readers during this special program, as students, parents, teachers, and even the administrative staff will be participating in the reading of A Boy Called Bat!

Your child will receive a copy of the book on Tuesday, January 14th. When the book comes home, you will also receive a tailored reading schedule and  questions to discuss with your child to foster an understanding of the book.

In school, your child will be invited to answer daily trivia questions to encourage and celebrate attentive listening. It is our hope that you will see your child taking pride in knowing and anticipating the details in the story. In class, there will be various activities which discuss or explore the book to foster a community of readers throughout the project.

Thank you in advance for your time and commitment to this project! We look forward to sharing a love of reading with your family throughout the next six weeks.
